Eelmine nädal oli täis "esimesi". Mu esimene eksam(tehtud!), mu esimene praktikapäev ja mu esimene matk mäkke!
This past week has been full of firsts. My first exam(passed!), my first day of practicum and my first hike up a mountain!
Esimene praktikapäev oli super. Ma armastan seda kooli, õpetajaid ja lapsi. Enda praktikat teen ma Zugi ja Lucerni rahvusvahelise kooli lasteaiarühmas 5-6-aastastega. Koolimaja ise on vana villa ja rõdult avaneb vaade mägedele ja järvele.
Minu rühma näol on tegu tõesti väga rahvusvahelise seltskonnaga - meil on lapsi USAst, Inglismaalt, Norrast, Taanist, Rootsist, Prantsusmaalt, Venemaalt jne. Ja nad on nii targad! Nad on suutnud mind tõesti üllatada.
My first day of practicum was amazing. I love the school, the teachers and the kids. I'm doing my practicum in the kindergarten class of the International School of Zug and Lucerne. The schoolhouse itself is an old villa and from the balcony you have an amazing view to the mountains and the lake.
The kids in my class are from all over the world - USA, England, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, France, Russia, etc. And they are so smart! I am seriously impressed with them. Most of them are fluent in English and in German(in their German class I actually understood everything!). On Wednesday I also saw a really good way to bring the international aspect into the classroom. Each kid had to bring a picture and a description of a celebration or tradition that is custom to their family or culture and then present it to the class. It was interesting to both the teachers and the kids. It also helped me see who of the kids are more fluent in English and who need some extra help. Plus when it comes to their reading and writing skills, they are more advanced than the kids the same age in Estonia. Back home they start learning to read and write in small letters in the first grade, but the kids in my class here, can all read and (some with a little help) write in small letters. Right now I'm just observing but at some point I will do some activities myself too.

Mägi on 1125,75 meetrit merepinnast. See on sama, mis panna 3,5 Suurt Munanäge üksteise otsa! Ehk siis minu haoks on see hiiglaslik! Eriti kuna ma pole põhimõtteliselt kolm aastat tänu enda põlvedele pea üldse sporti teinud. Aga ma jõudsin tippu! Tõsi, päris mitme peatusega tee peal, aga ma olen ikkagi pagana uhke enda üle.Muidugi ei saanud ka seekord ilma lauluta. Lisaks klassikalisele "The
hills are alive with the sound of music'ule" oli seekord repertuaaris ka
filmi "Tangled" soundtrack :D
Another highpoint of the week was Saturday and the hike up Mount Bürgenstock with Haley and Taylor. The mountain is 1125,75 meters above sea level. That means it's the same as when you would put Estonias highest mountain on top of itself 3,5 times! So for me, that is huge! Especially since I really haven't done basically any sports for three years now thanks to my knees. But I made it to the top! True, with quite a few stops on the way but still, I am frickin proud of myself. Of course we couldn't go without singing. In addition to the classical "The hills are alive with the sound of music" we also had the soundtrack of the movie "Tangled" in our repertoire :D
One thing Bürgenstock is famous for is the Hammetschwand Elevator, which is the highest exterior elevator in Europe. I'm still not sure whether to say fortunately or unfortunately, but the season for taking the elevator to the top ended on the 19th of October so we had to walk up.
Since Saturday was really foggy, the view from the mountain was like you were looking at a huge ball of cotton or a tub of cotton candy! It was surreal and amazing. The walk down was interesting, to say the least. We took a different route than the one we took up the mountain, so amongst other things we got to walk through some peoples backyards and got scared half to death by a very effective guard dog. Since we took our time going up, the sun was already setting when we were coming down the mountain. That meant that at one point we had two options - we could go through a dark and scary forest to get to Stansstad or take the main road down to the city. Since the second option was supposed to take only 20-30 minutes we chose that one. Let met tell you... walking down a very curvy, dark road is really not that much fun! But we got extremely lucky and a couple that works up on the mountain picked us up with their car on their way down to the city! And that really was the best thing that could have happened to us, since the road seemed endless, even in the car!
When I finally got to lay on my bed I felt so dead but the same time so-so proud of myself. I had set myself a goal to hike up at least one mountain during my stay here and I did it!!
